Auckland International Airport employs 300 staff in a 24/7, 365 days per year operation. Auckland Airport is committed to the professional and personal development of its employees. A key tool in achieving this is the performance review process.
The Airport HR team believed there were efficiencies to be made in this process by committing to a sustainable approach and moving their paper based reviews to an online system.
Endev were invited to partner Auckland Airport in the development
of the online performance development system (PDS).
Endev created a bespoke performance development system to deliver the functionality the HR team required. The PDS is a web based software solution that allows airport employees and managers to complete their six month and annual reviews online. Each user has a unique login and password and completes the form using a mix of tick box and open ended questions. The HR team have additional access to allow end user administration changes, reporting and analysis.
Auckland Airport’s performance management has been streamlined by the project. Staff can complete forms at home or work, at any time, and managers can review and contribute when and where it suits them. Completion and retrieval of documents is
quicker and easier. And managers and the HR team can get clear reports on the status of appraisals and reviews. The HR team report that the removal of the process as a barrier means that the purpose of performance systems, ie. meaningful engagement
on performance between a manager and an employee is happening.
As well as increased efficiency and transparency, the electronic system is reducing paper use and waste at the Airport. The initial development is being extended to include
new modules such as an online peer feedback system and the ability to link the results to the Airport remuneration system.
