Internet entrepreneur and Zumo coffee house owner Dan Slattery wanted to push the envelope in how fresh roasted coffee is sold online. Rather than a multi-stage information and check-out process, Dan wanted fans of his local roast beans to choose quantities and pay for their order straight on the site’s homepage. The single page website was to be supported with background information, images and interactivity through prominent links to Zumo’s Facebook pages. Because of the unique approach, Dan knew he needed a custom software development company and called on Endev.
The one-screen ordering required Endev to develop the site home page as an https page, so users have a fully secure purchase environment. Collaborating with Dan’s designer, based in Nelson, Endev turned the new site around in record time. Rather than wait weeks for the banks or DPS to complete their complex online merchant processes, Endev recommended Dan work with a company who could set up the merchant service in under a week. This allowed the site to go live in November 2009, in time for the lucrative summer season trade.
Endev’s bespoke software development enabled Dan to create a site that exactly matched his vision. On the Zumo homepage, customers can choose from the range of seven types of beans, select their quantity, preview their order and enter their delivery and credit card details to buy. If they want to read more on each type of bean they can toggle between products whilst remaining in the homepage ordering environment. By using .net for the development, rather than Flash, for instance, Endev helped ensure search engines could index the site. The collaboration between Endev and the Zumo team has enabled established conventions in online ordering to be successfully challenged and created an extremely rapid and accessible user experience.
"I've used Endev in the past and I know they always deliver. They did a great job for Zumo and I'd recommend them to anyone. In my experience, with software, you get what you pay for and Endev's passion, quality and reliability makes them excellent value for money."
